8670 is a high carbon nickel steel. It’s extremely stable in the quench, with minimal warping. Combined with non nickel carbon steel it makes for a low contrast damascus steel.
Comes in its annealed state and is properly conditioned, so there is no need for normalizing or thermo-cycling.
Incredibly tough with great edge retention.
It has a straight-forward heat-treat with very consistent results, and minimal decarb.
